First CSA box!

We joined a CSA this year (Community supported agriculture). We are sharing with my mom and Terry, and have a share of veggies and meat. Olivia and I get to pick it up every Wednesday at a park, so she is pretty excited about that!

Besides the "fun" of having different stuff every week, to me it is about knowing where our food is coming from. Everything is local and comes from a handful of different farms. All of the meat is grass fed and humanely treated. This is one of the most important things to me! After watching Food, Inc. I am a little disgusted with the state of the food industry. I would rather keep my money local, and know what I am feeding my family.

Not to mention eating better, and learning about new and different things!

This week, we got: TONS of amazing strawberries, lots of salad greens, chives, kohlrabi, bok choy, eggs, steak, ham, and wheat bread. Pretty awesome! This is the first week of the season, and it's pretty cool eating things that are REALLY in season.

Today we tried bok choy for dinner:

The bok choy is the whitish part. It sort of reminds me of cabbage. I did NOT like the piece I ate raw. That will not be happening again!
Matt is not the most adventerous eater, so this CSA was a gamble on my part. I made him promise to TRY everything, and I would try to prepare things in ways he would like. He liked it!

However, I got one "head" of it, like above, and after this meal I have at least half of it left and no idea what to do with it.
Um, and Olivia loved the strawberries! She woke up asking for them this morning....at 5:15 am....
